The School of Stitched Textiles delivers six levels of courses, enabling you to study a course that meets your exact requirements. Although, you do not have to start with a beginners course if you have previous experience in textiles.
We suggest potential students download our free taster course and complete the questionnaire it contains, as this will help you to understand the level of course that is best for you. However, if you have any questions you would like to discuss with our office staff or a tutor, then please do not hesitate to contact us.
SST Beginners Courses
If you have never touched textiles - then this is the level for you. Short 20-30 hour courses on basic subjects, giving you an SST Certificate upon completion. Only available as an online download.
City & Guilds Level 1 Courses
Short City & Guilds certificated courses, a little above the SST Beginners Course level, but not by much. 30 hours taught time which includes some design work as well as sampling techniques. Rough completion time: 6-8 weeks.
City & Guilds Level 2 Courses
Longer delivery of around 120 taught hours, over 4 modules, with some design and sampling work as well as a completed piece. Specific subject areas rather than the more general Level 3 courses. Students wishing to study these courses could be beginners to the subjects as no previous experience is needed. Rough completion time: 8-9 months.
City & Guilds Level 3 Courses
The most popular course among those wanting to teach, or become a Textile Designer/Maker, These courses are 460 taught hours with a 2-3 year rough completion time. Wide subject areas with in-depth coverage of numerous topics, including design portfolio and 4-5 completed items. You should have good basic sewing skills and motivation for this longer course.
City & Guilds Diploma Courses
For those who have completed the Level 3 courses or are at a high level of practice. These courses are 460 taught hours and build on the techniques in Level 3. For those wishing to teach at a higher level or simply improve on their already substantial skills. You will work on a personal choice research topic and experiment with techniques and materials, eventually making 4-5 completed items. Rough completion time: 2-3 years.
SST Master Practitioner Courses
