Ethel & Em is a bit of an everyfolks kind of wool shop located in the northwest city of Lancaster in the UK.
Proprietor Melanie is from New York City and has spent most of her life in big melting pot cities including San Francisco and London. The welcoming vibe to all is reflected in the variety of yarns including eco yarns, vegan yarns, natural fibres and synthetic fibre and the pricing - there are value yarns at under £3 per ball and luxury yarns up to £25 per 100g and all price points in between.
When it comes to yarn brands, stalwarts such as Rowan, Opal and King Cole are represented as are newer to the UK brands such as Malabrigo, Rico and Scheepjes. The shop also stocks smaller UK independents like Fyberspates, Crystal Yarn (Take Two), Third Vault Yarns, Colourworks UK and Flyy Dyed Yarns. Other brands stocked include Manos del Uruguay, Hjertegarn, Lang, Mirasol, Auruncania, Urth Yarns, Schoppel Wolle, Adriafil, Louisa Harding, Queensland collection and probably more by the time you see this listing!
Our go to needles and notions are Knitpro, but Clover and Addi are firm favourites too. We have recently added Lykke interchangeable sets to the offering and find Hiya Hiya accessories too cute to ignore!
