Come along to another popular ‘Meet the Maker’ talk, with Sara Impey of Quilt Art.
Sara Impey is in her own words “a self-taught quiltmaker with a background in journalism”. She made her first quilt in 1971 while still at school. In the early 1990’s she joined her local quilt group and discovered the expressive possibilities of the quilt as an art form.
In the last six years her quilts have featured stitched lettering using a simple grid system of one letter per square. She likes to play with this technique to introduce humour, subverting the notion that text on fabric must always be deeply meaningful.
Sara has been a member of Quilt Art since 2001 and co-edited Textile Perspectives from 1997-2010. Her quilt ‘Punctuation’ was included in the V&A’s exhibition ‘Quilts 1700-2010: Hidden Histories, Untold Stories’ and that piece has been bought by the museum.
No booking necessary. Seating can be provided upon request.
