Advanced Hand Embroidery Course

Enhance your Hand Embroidery skills and techniques with this advanced hand embroidery course. This course has been specifically designed for more experienced crafters who have completed the Skill Stage 3 (or Level 3) Hand Embroidery course or have demonstrable experience of creating a variety of different projects and pieces. If you’re ready to expand on the techniques you have previously learnt to discover your own unique artistic voice and expression then this is the course for you.

Throughout your course you’ll be supported by our expert tutors who will aim to assist your personal development.  You will focus on conducting your own personal research, develop your skills, explore new ideas and ultimately form a collection of work at a professional level.

Course Details

As a City and Guilds advanced hand embroidery course, it is nationally recognised for its high standards of teaching, learning and assessment.

Work your way through 12 individual modules each designed to teach a new skill and provide a better understanding of your subject. And because our courses are taught via distance learning through online materials and videos, you’ll find it easy to fit your studies around other on-going commitments.

Course Modules

There are around 410 hours of course content and materials split across 12 modules. Here’s what you’ll learn:

Delivery & Assessment

The course is supplied as a distance learning course where course materials and tutor assessments are delivered digitally and work is returned to your tutor via digital presentation.

Your coursework will be reviewed by your tutor and periodically by an Internal Quality Assessor, to ensure the appropriate quality standard is maintained. You will be provided with written feedback in a timely fashion (usually within 10 days) and, if needed, you will be able to re-submit altered work. You can contact your tutor at any time to request your work to date be reviewed and suggestions for future progress be made.

Course Timescales

There is around 410 hours of online hand embroidery course content/materials and it is usual for students to take between 6-8 weeks to complete each module. Students can take up to 2 years to complete, however it is up to the individual student how quickly they wish to return work to their tutor for assessment.

A six-month contingency is available, to cover unforeseen issues such as illness, upon production of supporting documentation,  extending the course life to 30 months (2.5 years). The maximum for this extra contingency time is once during the course lifetime.

Aimed At

This City and Guilds accredited Hand Embroidery course is an advanced study programme aimed at embroiderers who want to enhance their skills and commercialise their work.

Ideally students will have a lot of demonstrable embroidery experience or must have previously completed our Skill Stage 3 course

At this level students will be able to continue developing personal research and technical skills to form a unique collection of work at a professional level. Courses at this level provide students with an opportunity to develop their own individual style, experiment with ideas and develop their technical skills to form a collection of work at a professional level. If you haven’t previously completed a Level 3 or Skill Stage 3 course then please do check with us first before enrolling onto this course.

Courses at this level again include a Professional Practise module making them great for craft business owners. Whether you teach classes, run a craft store or sell your own products you’ll be taught valuable business and marketing skills including working to client briefs, establishing costing models and how to promote your business and services.

Our skill Stage 4 courses are also great for those with a business ambition. Our course includes an entire module called professional practise, which is aimed at getting you business ready. We teach valuable industry skills to really give you that professional, competitive edge.
