Welcome to The Study Store

Would you love to be crafty and creative, but aren’t really sure where to start?

My friend Lorna often commented on how much she would like to be able to sew creatively and asked for my advice on where to start. She had bought a new Janome sewing machine and loved the idea of creating special gifts for family or items for her home, but struggled with how to get going. I created this blog and the accompanying courses with her in mind, to help her produce great stuff straight away; a little guidance and maybe a quick video tutorial was all that she needed to guide her creativity and show her the skills needed to progress onto other projects.

My name is Gail and I am a tutor with The School of Stitched Textiles (SST) and have been for the last 20 years or so. Our mission is to help you achieve your goals in the same way that I helped my friend Lorna to achieve hers.

The Study Store site is intended for those who are at the beginning of their creative textile journey. We have a range of online beginner’s courses which take you through your course step by step using video tuition – you can view them by going to the Shop. On the blog itself, I’ll concentrate on the creative use of your sewing machine, although there will be other topics too. Regular blog posts, video projects and video tips will all be plentiful (and free!). Make sure you subscribe to our complimentary online monthly magazine, which is only available to those on our mailing list. It is also free and will contain the written instructions/templates for our videos and projects. The first edition will be available in January 2016 and we’ll be featuring a lovely new baby keepsake box as the first project.

So what is Lorna doing now? She has progressed onto a City & Guilds of London course in Patchwork and Quilting with The School of Stitched Textiles and plans to teach in further and adult education. I am so proud of her!
